Default Park gear not engaging

Ok the problem is this. I have a year 2000 3.0 s-type and all of a sudden after one night i noticed the "P" on my gearbox wasn't engaging i got it to "go in" a couple of times but not always. all the other gears were working great and i can start the car with the neutral position. But if anyone would know if theres a simple solution for this or is it a visit to transmission shop? thanks before hand.

Contact Ken Karr at Motor Cars Ltd. he will fix you up. There is a plastic piece that needs to be replaced with a new one that they sell.

Whoops sorry I did not notice your location.

I belive that its a DIY application. I have never done one because 2003 MYs don't have that part.

Had this happen on my '05 S type. Was a set of bolts underneath that keep the line taught that goes to the gearbox. They typically get loose and can brake off. It is right about underneath the J gate shifter and is easily fixed. If you feel under the car and their is a cable in the center that isnt tight that's probably what it is.

aj two different gearboxes and the 1999 through 2002 have the OP's problem. OEM are plastic and wear out, the new improved replacements are aluminum I believe. If you click the actual part link, 2003's and up don't have that part.
