Default 04 s-type keyfob

Ok I have read all the threads on programming (or not) a keyfob for an S-Type.
My problem may be a little different, so here goes.

I have an '04 s-type 4.2 and long story short after changing the batteries in both key fobs, the 1 that originally had a dead battery now works fine, the one that was originally still working now does not.

That being said, I have tried a number of ways of reprogramming it but the strange thing is it seems to work fine when I am inside the car. I open the door and get out and it no longer works.

Any ideas?

Thanks

As far as I know there is no onboard procedure for programming the key fob. It can only be done with a specific software that a dealer must have. I have changed the batteries a few times and I had no problems after that. I have heard of cases when the key "goes wild" without any obvious reason.

The buttons wear out after time. You can replace them if you want and instructions have been posted here before.

But when they start to get flakey you might be better off replacing it.

If you don't want to spend big dollars on a jaguar fob, like me you can use a ford one. I programmed my old ford escape fob to my 04 XJR.

That may not work with the S-Type. Though it might...
