'05 S-Type, steering wheel gears 'whirling'

Maybe it's nothing to be concerned about, but this is a really quiet car and I can hear everything. One that I hear is the sound of gears turning behind the steering wheel whenever it's turned. Could someone tell me if this is normal, or does something need to be lubricated?
