Default 07 4.2 lo-miler, Should I?

Hi all, I have a line on a 1 owner survivor S 4.2 and, wait for it, 9800 miles. Asking almost 14k, is it worth it and what foibles can I expect down the road? We only drive ~6k/year so it will stay lo-miles. Thoughts other than it's not an R?

>WOW, I would buy it in a heartbeat

In a freek'n minute!!!

Are there any service records on it? The only thing I might check is that the head lamps are working correctly. Either check at night or drive into a
covered parking lot and make sure that they "ignite" correctly (first set it to auto on the turn signal stalk).

Also, check their "leveling" mechanism. When they come on they bounce up and down to establish correct aim. If they don't there could be problems with the plastic moving "bits" in the head lamps. The "bits" get brittle and crumble with age. There are fixes, but you would probably want to address things before buying the car.

I had to replace one of mine soon after buying my '08 with 48k miles 3 years ago. It cost $1400.00 to do so...

Thanks for the input. 2 hours away so that's a bugger to get to see it.

Seems that if I even paid 12 for it, that's a 50-60% premium for the miles but it seems to book out for that. This is almost as exciting as the '10 A6 Audi I missed at auction a few months back with 2200 miles-went for 22k.

You all love yours and would but again? Any mods that really help like, sway bars, strut brace etc?

I'd buy another S-type if they were still in production. Love mine to death.

Since you only drive 6K a year, you'll never accumulate enough to wear out the car or equal what many of ours have. If the extra cost of the car doesn't bother you and everything else checks out, go for it.

As for mods- forget it. The boy racer stuff makes little or no difference except emptying your wallet.

I know on my Sube Forester(the ultimate boy racer), just doing sway bars, +1 wheels, & strut bar made it into a different car-the TSi version that sube never made.

Just curious if anyone ever upgrades to R suspensions bits.

No not really. There were never enough of them produced to spawn much after market interest. Plus with the STR there was really no point in trying to "enhance" a NA 4.2 V8.

Only "mods" that I really know of have been appearance to suspension and wheels.

But..., it is a 4.2L V8, and that is very evident whenever you "put your foot into it".

Well mine was three states and 200+ miles away. But when I saw the ad I knew it was the one. I just had to get there to see it and test drive it.

Yeah, no excuse save for dipping into S. FL nightmare traffic.

And I'd think R sway bars at least would make a big difference not that I've even tried the regular S. Power I'd leave stock. I know what doing minimal nods to suspendys does for most cars, even our hybrid Accord with Acura bars on it. Like thinking of getting wed and wondering what implants would look like on her...

And what options were there? Nav, park beeping, wheels, xenons?

A FL car for all 9,800 miles? If so - YES - but everything is negotiable...

See if you can pull a CarFax on it. I purchased a 1 owner '07 3.0 w/ 31,000 miles on it - Immaculate... A car driven only during season... They were asking $13k - I got it for a little over $11k and feel like I got a new car for it.

The car fax showed when it was built - when it arrived in US (Miami) when it went up for sale (Naples Luxury imports) title renewals - oil changes - tire rotation - a sun visor had been replaced..... Everything but the car washes...

Mine is a 3.0 and drives like it is on a rail - smooth - quiet.... I LOVE MY S-TYPE!!!!!

Found it...... Black..... Beautiful.... Mine is blue w/ the same interior......

For comparison - their is a White '08 3.0 w/ 28,683 listed for $18,944 up in St. Petersburg. And a '05 3.0 w/ 29,122 miles listed for $11,900 in Pompano Beach

Points of negotiation:
That nav is obsolete. If you're in Miami - it'll be pretty much useless since roads/highways have changed so much since 2007...

S-Type's are notorious for drooping headliners... My '07 had a few drooping areas and I complained that it'd take $1,000 to fix/repair/remove/replace it...

Seller Comments

I think the nav can be updated to about 2014.

(But it's still an outdated system and is what it is.)

From the pix it appears to have the NAV unit and with the V8 it will be a high end car. I think it will probably have pretty much everything that was available.

If you have the VIN put it into FordEtis home page to get a fair idea of options.

So it has a spotless carfax, new tires 3 yrs ago, brake flush & brakes(at 7k miles??), MAF cleaning, serpentine belt, and a few other things. I think the shop in Miami 'worked' the elderly owners.
