Default 11 year old battery

Battery took quite a bit of water in each cap. filled equally and am now charging, 2 amp overnight. video went dark on display when driving home and car was hard starting last couple days like running lean, with some smoke in exhaust in AM. Highway ran ok but acting like battery starting to go or emission plugs fouling. Going to spring for new battery, had lots of luck with die hards from K-Mart/Sears. Dealer quoted me 350 installed, which is robbery. No thanks. Will spring for new Battery ??? Current Battery is Orig equipem FROM JAGUAR ENGLAND. ANY THOUGHTS ON HOW CAR IS ACTING. GOING TO THROW IN A SET OF DENSO'S AND A k@n AIR FILTER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO JUST CAME ON. only 44k miles and CAR IS 11 YEARS YOUNG AND JUST GETTING BROKE IN. HAD A LOT OF RAIN AND DAMPNESS HERE (coil??), REMAINDER WILL BE IN az SUN FOR THE WINTERS. ANY SUGGESTIONS - NEW TO THIS BLOG

Welcome.

As said, a parargraph or 2 would help those trying to help you. Generally when it flows like this I simply move on and dont bother.

11 years sounds a tad stretched, but not impossible.

The issues you mentioned are very much battery related, as most posts on the subject state.

These "modern" cars require a very stable voltage to maintain all the smoke and mirrors.

Guess you mean spark plugs? They're not due for another 60K miles or so.

Nix on the K&N filter.

What year is your car?

What engine?

11 years is for real. Bought the car August 2004 - Any thoughts on replacement battery??? Dealer wants 350 which is high it is only a few bolts. Not even just loosen the tightener and both posts. Car is clean, posts like new. Thinki9ng Ebay but shipping is costly. Battery Giant is a local battery warehouse.

Car is 05, 4.2 liter S type R. Car is 11 years old. Any plug will show signs of wear. Car is stored in winter as mileage indicates. I do not know what was in them as far as Orig equip. Storing cars I do not care what car you can have issues metalurgical ones if you get my drift. Spark air fuel, some things never change.

Affordable vented batteries are sold at NAPA, Advance Auto Parts, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. Check their websites for battery coupons and you'll save $10 to $20 on the deal. Expect to pay between $120 and $140 with a coupon and core exchange. Battery prices have really increased during the past three years or so and the $69 deals just aren't out there anymore....

I have run K&N filter on my 2004 4.2L for the past 2 years--absolutely no issues. Before that I ran them on my RX7 Turbo II s and my 1993 Twin Turbo for a total of 20 years without issue.

Last year I installed a Wal-Mart battery--they were $128 US if I remember correctly--supplied by Johnson Controls and with a 3yr full replacement warranty and 9 years pro-rated.Very happy with it so far.

I prefer the Bosch battery from Pep Boys. About $125 and bigger than the factory one. Yes after 11 years you need a new battery but you got a lot of time out of that factory battery!

Be sure you understand vented batteries and hook up the vent tube.

After 4 years, I would replace ANY battery. When I bought my S-type, that was the first thing changed.

Very amazing you got that much out of one battery, especially with the electrical gremlins on these cars!

It's probably a service replacement installed by the dealer. Aside from date code, they are identical to the original.
