Default 2000-2004 S-Type Owners Please Read!

Hello fellow members, I am trying to replace my hood, I have found one in the color I need, in very good condition for under $200. Problem is, its from a 2000 model, so according to the VIN number these parts are not compatible. However, if it's just a matter of changing the hinges, I can purchase those as well from the same donor car. So here's what I need, if you guys could take the time to photograph your hinge location and upper radiator support(where the hood latches are located), and post them up with your model year for me, it could save me a ton of time and money. I understand everyones busy with life, but if you could take the 5 minutes for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You In Advance,

Calvin

I vaguely recall someone asked something similar a while back and that it should fit. Anyone know the thread?

Calvin

I have read the threads that state its as changing the hinges to accommodate for the different MY's. But as I recall along time ago, I remember seeing a build thread here that someone was attempting to put a post facelift hood onto a preface model. There were pics and there was a big difference (again as I recall).

Sorry I have racked my brain and the advanced search feature here looking for that thread. There are only a couple members here now that may recall that particular thread, JagV8, Tbird, possibly Jon89. I know JOsworth posted to that thread and he may remember but he doesn't come around much anymore. Again it was many years ago and I don't believe that the vehicle was ever finished or at least posted here about being finished.

Remember guys, the car was on a left side of a carport, as I recall the front facia was a blue (preface) and a silver (post) hood that would not match up.

Wish I could help, but I do not recall the thread in question. Since I have a 2005 S-Type, I just don't take the time to read the threads about the pre-facelift models. With my wife's 2006 XK8, it's all I can do to read the threads that pertain to the problems that car faces. I haven't been under our S-Type since last October - it's been absolutely perfect, now at 78,400 miles. But that will change this weekend since it is due for its next oil & filter change and tire rotation....

Regarding Rick's point about so many S-Type forum members from years past now long gone, I was thinking just the other day about how sad that is. Completely understandable as owners' needs change or their cars become money pits requiring too much time and effort to keep in the stable, but still sad nonetheless....

I also recall a similar thread, it was a mechanic doing the work for a customer, he got it to fit in the end (I think by changing hinges) but said it looked terrible, but the customer insisted he use the supplied bonnet.

I remember this thread as well, and I remember it being a pre-facelift car and a post-facelift hood, or was it the other way around? I know the post-facelift cars have a longer hood to accommodate a more upright grill. That's why I was trying to get pictures from the 2000 to 2004, because from the outside everything looks the same(for the most part). I just don't want to drive 3 hours and shell out the money for this hood and then find out that it's more than just hinges that changed.

Thanks Again,

Calvin

Norri.. I noticed for a split second the Calvin Knows shirt Lol

The one that probably won't fit would be from 2005 i.e. the (largely cosmetic) facelift.

We'll get a use for it later, but that was the wrong thread.

This is the only one I can find, but it doesn't help much https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-detail-91131/

Norri, you're the man! Believe it or not that actually helps a ton. What I needed to know was if the bolt locations for the hood hinges on the chassis were the same and they are, according to that thread. I also needed to know if the mounting location for the hood/bonnet latch was the same, and once again according to that thread they are. Now, if someone would post some pics so I can confirm it, I'll be good to go.

I think you'll need accurate measurements (or just go with it).

Did you try JEPC?

Generally they change as little as possible (*) as retooling is costly.

(*) except when Ian C wants to tweak the image marginally, then cost is no barrier

I think you're right..
no I did not, I don't have a computer, I use my cell phone and I have a very limited data plan, so I have to limit my time online. I think I'm just going to go with it.

Maybe meet a suitable S-Type owner locally and measure? Would be so much easier with cars next to each other.
