2000 jag s type 4.0 no electric power
Hi All, yes..it's me again with another question to pick your brains. I was having problems with shifting my car out of park. so i decided to remove the console. to do this i had to disconnectthe cigerett lighter plug, the plug to the 'S' button on the console, and the plug to the 'traction' button on the console. i removed the console and discovered that the solenoid that retracts the plastic tab to release the metal shaft along the left side of the mechanism is not working with pushing the bottom of the solenoid manually. Then it will work. So i decided i would take the car to a mechanic and have him determine if its the solenoid or wiring. i put the plugs back together and in the console. When i tried to start the car - there is nothing.. no electrical power to the car at all! Did i set off a security feature my disconnecting the plugs? the car is completely shut down. had to use the key to open the truck. no electrical power to anything (seats, truck...) will disconnecting the battery for several minutes and reconnecting it reset the security override?
thanks
thanks

What is the PATS red light doing?? You may have tripped the PATS as you said.
It's mounted in the center of the defroster cover at the bottom of the windshield.
Yes, I would disconnect and reconnect the battery. Have your key FOB in your hand because if the car thinks it's a security issue the horn will start honking when you reconnect the battery.
Check that your rear brake lights are working first. The brake switch might be your problem. It could be bad or just need to be adjusted.

Hi,
If you have no power at all then check the primary fuses located in the trunk. They will be in a small black box, probably in the spare wheel well.
If they are ok then go to each fuse box and check the main fuses in those.
Do so having first disconnected the battery.
You could also check the ground points to make sure they are in good condition and not corroded.
Hope this helps,

I'm doing the same thing now and I did not disconnect the battery when I took those controls apart in the console. Had to start the car to get it into N like the instructions state to change the trans cable and it started right up. Now I am thinking when I re-connect those parts, might disconnect the battery first but not sure. Good luck with yours and please post when you find the fix. Thanks.

The best fuses to check are best found I suspect by looking at the Electrical Guide (from JTIS, free on here) for your car & year and working back from what does/doesn't have any power. Ditto for relays if applicable. I think it's unusual to have lost power in this sort of case but hey shorts can happen and maybe you've in effect moved and thus diagnosed a chafed cable waiting to short out any time. A pain but stuff like that does happen
