Default 2000 Jaguar S type 3.0 *P1381*

This is for my brother's jaguar. He had a friend at monroe do the oil change and I believe he put only 5 quarts of oil and he didn't use the correct Jaguar Filter, I pulled out 4 quarts when I did the oil change for him. I know that the car needs a special oil filter that can handle 50 psi at all times correct? Anyways he just got p1381 and there is a rattling sound from the top of the engine. What would be a good way to approach this problem? Take out the solenoid and inspect? Believe it or not alldatapro.com has jack **** about what to do. It just says it could be the VVT solenoid, actuator stuck or the actuator oil pump malfunction. Can anyone give me a step by step procedure to test all the compnents and wires? (IE the voltages etc for faulty and if it's good)

Thanks so much MErry Christmas.

He also has P0420 if that makes a difference.

first if you had that little of oilthats probobly the cause of the VVT code. Especially since it takes between 7-8qts oil. 5-30w and Ive never heard of a oil filter needing 50 psi at all times. requirments for bearings are 10psi/1000rpm

NOTE: VEHICLES WITH A VARIABLE CAMSHAFT USE AN OIL FILTER THAT HAS AN INTERNAL CHECK VALVE THAT KEEPS THE EXHAUST VALVE CLOSED, WHEN THE ENGINE IS OFF, THIS WILL PREVENT ANY HARD START, OVER-FUELING OR FLOODING CONDITIONS ON INITIAL START UP (FIGURE 1).

NOTE: VEHICLES WITH A VARIABLE CAMSHAFT RUN ON A MINIMUM OIL PRESSURE OF 50 PSI. REGARDLESS, OF THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE.

That is where I got that info from. I got the jaguar oil filter from the dealer put in high mileage castrol 5w30 and it still makes the noise at the top of the engine. I dare not drive it, could it just be a clogged VVT Solenoid or do you think the actuator could be damaged?
