Update 6-20-17

We have driven it multiple times, but since the beginning we have had trans issues. It finally went out, so a new one is on its way in this week. Oh, and we did a little bit of a color change!

wicked !!!

i think a R mesh grill will help its look .

i thought you first said it was for daily , clearly its not , with no head lights , blacked out tail lights . and a flame thrower exhaust ,

or are your laws non existent ? or just loosely policed ?

That looks insane! Well done.

How come you had transmission issues? Too much power I'm guessing?

I've got a slight feeling you're taking it to the strip judging by that tyre set up! Looking forward to more updates.

I've been longing to see an extremely modded S-Type, especially with an LX motor. Well done!

Fantastic work so far! I like the paint job. It looks like you converted the car to more of a 1/4 mile/strip car rather than a street car. I see that you tore out the IRS and put in a live axle. With the raised rear stance it will shift more weight forward, so cornering will suffer. Likely you don't have or need TCS, ABS, and dash functions.

You will have to post some drag times and HP dyno results someday.

Haha I will actually be DDing this car until the end of the summer. It does have head lights; however this is just my temporary setup until I finish building my actual ones, and they may be tough to see in the pics..

I'm in South Dakota, so I'm definitely not in a big city like most of you probably are. I also have an 87 Oldsmobile Cutlass that is just about a heinous as the Jag, and every time I've been stopped in that, the cops dig it and end up starting conversations about it with me. As long as you arent being an *** hat and putting yourself and others in danger, they are pretty tolerable. It's all about respect here.

Lastly, I recently picked up a R mesh grill for it, but I just haven't had the time to black it out yet. Hopefully I'll get it done this week.

Thanks for the compliments fellas. I really appreciate it after all the work I've put into the ol girl, and I love when people enjoy looking at it as much as I do.

As far as it being a daily driver and functionality of the systems. I truly intend to actually DD this thing. Right now, besides the factory gauges, the interior is fully functional.. GPS, power everything, memory seat/steering wheel, etc. I didnt bother with gauges since a touchscreen and mini computer that communicates with the ecu/tcu took their spot. Heat is functional right now, and I intend to put the AC back I it once I have it driving 100%. I removed the ABS, but I do still have traction control.. mostly for racing purposes however.. this is via my standalone ECU however. It is set up to pull boost/timing until the rear wheels are within the hysteresis with the front.

I'll hopefully be able to report back very soon with hp and track results!

Great Project
I have just acquired a 2003 STR with a blown engine, and I am thinking about doing a LS conversion type project. I was thinking more along the lines of putting a "mostly" stock LS3 motor and the correct, (but yet to be determed) transmission into the vehicle. I would mostly keep it stock, changing only the things that I needed to to make the conversion function properly in the car. I would really like to get a good feel for, if this project is one that I can have done, as I know that it would be too much for me to under take at this point in my life. I have a 1998 Jaguar XJ8, that I brought with a Ls1 conversion already completed, and I also have a 1979 Porsche 928 with a Chevy V8 conversion, that I also brought as completed project.

The 2003 STR would be a daily driver for my wife, replacing our 2001 S - Type. I have talked to some guys locally, who have done and/or worked on some XJ8 conversions, but I can't find anyone (locally) who has done , or even seen LS conversion and a S Type Jag. I would greatly appreciate any information, and/or connections that you could share with me.

STR = 400HP versus LS3 at 426 HP for the N/A engine. (Crate motor LS3s can have 500HP) As a daily driver, why would you do this? Too much money too big a project for 26 more HP. Just rebuild the STR motor, or purchase a lower mileage used one. Save $10+K
-If you put in a motor with over 600 HP, then you will have to beef up the differential and perhaps rear suspension. $5K+
-Do you want the TR6060 manual trans, or an automatic. (LS3 Drop outs engine/trans/electrical cost between $8K and $20K)

- Then there is the electrical! You can run an LS series engine stand alone, but then you would have no instrument cluster. If you want ABS/traction control/dynamic stability control, then you will have to convert those systems over to a GM system and run a GM ECM.
(The electrical quickly becomes a nightmare.)
- Forget it if you want to pay someone to do the conversion. Probably end up costing you $30k+ for a car worth $10K.

Got it. Thanks. I was concerned about dependability. But, I see what you are saying.

So, I think that I will check the area for a good Jaguar engine rebuilder.

And, "THANKS AGAIN".

I've had 2 LS swapped cars. I really like that engine and in something that's light weight it's a ton of fun. But for a street driven Jag I'm more of a purest.

Many of the LS swaps use the GM 4L60E 4 speed automatic transmission. Anyone used the the smooth shifting ZF 6HP26 could be disappointed with the transmission performance and large RPM drops between the 4 gears. Having owned them both I can attest to that.

True, but the Camaro SS's dropouts come with the L99 engine and the 6L80 transmission. GM's 6 speed auto trans that can handle up to 650HP. Or more recently one can get the 8L90 trans.
But if you use a L99 engine, you start out with 400HP so why swap in the first place.
