Default 2000 S type 4.0 ~ Trans Fault light on = PO745 code.

Hey team,
I was driving home when my trans fault light went on.. but of course the car drove fine. Anyway I made it home without any issues and pulled the following code from the car

PO745 = Pressure Control Solenoid Malfunction – Ok sounds expensive..

I called the dealer and asked them what this meant?, well they advised me that I need a new transmission and they could do it for $4500.. yeah.. right!..

Well after dong some checking (Google is your friend) I think, I say ( I think) I might know what this is, but I’m looking for confirmation from the team..

It’s my understanding this simply refers to the 4-3 “prestroke valve spring” being broken. Apparently this is common problem with the ford 5r55n trans. The fix is / looks easy enough ie.

Drain the oil
Remove the pan, remove the filter, remove 4-3 prestroke valve & spring
Replace spring, install pre-stroke valve, install filter, install new gasket, install pan. Fill with fluid.
Check for correct level, blaa, blaa, blaa..

I’ve already found the spring,
http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=2&Product_Code =S46741G-3&Category_Code=5R55Nvbkits it’s like $5.89, the filter and pan gasket can be found anywhere, so basically the repair looks like it might end up costing me about $50.00 + trans fluid.

My question to the team is this???

1. Am I heading down the right track here?
2. Has anyone ever heard or tried to perform this fix?
3. Since I’ll have my valve body open should I just get the rebuild kit too and rebuild the value body too? Or would you just fix the spring (assuming that’s what wrong) and move on with life?

Thanks for your time and have a great week

TDC

P.S.

Here’s the valve body diagram I found outlining everything… looks simple enough..

Looks like you're very much on the right lines. I hope you searched on P0745 (with a zero) - if not have another go

Some sites you may not have found:
www.sonnax.com/part_summary.php?id=3812&pl=3
www.sonnax.com/instructions/56947J-S2-IN.pdf
www.transgo.com/sk_ford.php
www.charlietranny.com/5R55Nfluidfill.htm

You're in the right ballpark with the DIY cost but you may want to change other things while you have it apart (fluid, filter, gaskets, whatever).

Otherwise, just go for it. I think somone posted some helpful details but maybe under another code (try Search with 5R55N maybe).
