2000 S type codes P1380 & P1383
I've just "inherited" a 2000 S-type with 21k miles on it. Yes, it's an "old lady" car. :-) It won't pass in the emissions part of the NC State inspection because the check engine light leads to codes P1380 & P1383 stored in the computer..
P1380 Variable cam timing solenoid A malfunction
P1383 Variable Cam Timing Over-retarded (Bank 1)
I've got to travel about an hour to the nearest dealer and am scared to death because, not knowing anything about these about variable cam problems, I don't want the dealer looking the wrong way when I take it in. I don't mean to sound like I don't trust mechanics. I do; I love 'em! My local guy said to go to the dealer. But the Jag dealer guys I'm going to - well, I don't have any experience with them yet and have limited funds and time. I need for them to go right to the problem and then fix it with a minimum of time and parts.
I'd really appreciate any help that someone could give me.
What should the dealer do to fix these problems and what parts are going to be needed?

if it's a V8 ,it usually isthis .passenger side cam cover has to come off and one 8 mm bolt holding the VVT solenoid in.. remove the valve and check the screen (about onecm)usually they fall to pieces and they plug the oil gallery. same with V6 but bank 1 or(a) is on the passenger side , the intake will have to be removed.. the valves i think if i can remember is $250-$300. if it's not the valve then the wiring will have to be checked.. to the PCM which is kind hard to get to.. i would start with removing the cam cover. and checking the valve screen
