2000 stype 3.0 shifter issues..
Ok ive seen alot of issues where the trans will not go out of park.. mine has the opposite. when its in park the light is red that says its in park but it acts like it is in neutral. all other gears work like they are suppose to park is the only one that it does this. i have the shifter upgrade and i had to change the shifter cable any ideas what the cause of this could be? did i put the shifter repair part in upside down?
ill add some more info that may be important. car has 143k on it, but the transmission has a reman sticker on it, how many miles that has on it i do not know. I got the car about a month ago for 300 (owner had no idea about cars, took a chance) dollars due to a flexible coupling giving up and breaking the output yoke, front driveshaft, deploying the passenger airbag and a few other misc parts that i have already replaced. the car did sit for a couple years, the car is VERY clean no rust at all, clean leather interior, etc. i know the car ran perfect when it was purchased before the coupling went out.
The cable may need adjusting, some reading for you here:

on a side note the plastic in this thing is horrible, I thought my mercedes was bad..

I checked the cable adjustment it did not help, i even took the shifter cable off the shifter point and tried to adjust it manually (pulling and pushing it) and it did the same thing as before, i dont get why it will work in all gears shift fine but it will not go to park (by go to park i mean actually keep the car from moving while it says its in park) sitting for a while could cause a stuck solenoid maybe? it wasnt in park when it was parked.. maybe change filter and fluid and see if that helps? i plan on checking the fluid tomorrow see if i can tell anything from that.
after reading up i think i have parking pawl issue i cant find the location on the trans though, i have an exploded view of the transmission but not one that has the location, but its on the rear part of the trans, so ill start there. im wondering if when they towed it they disconnected it to get it on the tow truck?
fluid was low i put some in yesterday, i drove it a little yesterday (mile or so and back to check it) and it seemed delayed to shift but i think it was due to the shifter cable not being set properly. the cable that is on there now i ordered off ebay (used) because the driveshaft took out the old one, maybe it is stretched? how can i tell other than the shifter lining up issue? im going to get under there tomorrow and manually move the selector on the transmission and hope that is the issue. if that is then it looks like i bought a bad cable.. but its better than the other issues it could be..
