Default 2001 s-type 3.0 timing question

Recently aquired a 2001 s-type 3.0l Jaguar in a trade for electrical work.
The car is in very nice condition but has very high milage 350,000.
The car runs and drives but is in need of many mechanical repairs.
I have already redone the brakes and steering rack.

Unfortunately the 2001 3.0l motor seems to have a different vvt setup than 2002->.On the 01 the cam position sensors are located under the spark plug wire cove instead of the front of the valve covers.
Can anyone direct me to a DIY or shop manual on the earlier model engine? The engine looks like this.
Anyone know if this is a non-vvt engine.

I have a low milage engine from a Lincoln LS would I be able to swap the cam gears, crank gear, tensioners and front cover and use that motor?

Wow, congrats!

Be a bit patient as some of the guys know a lot about the 3.0 (and the LS) and will likely help.

Er, you'll need to do the newbie stuff to be able to see pics & PDFs. Meanwhile: Hello!

JTIS is cheap on ebay and good. Some Technical Guides tend to come with it and more are on here (but see the above).

To a fair extent 2002.5MY was a redesigned car (engine, suspension, electronics, etc). Even so, lots stayed the same.

Well pulled off the front cover and valve covers of the LS motor and pulled the valve cover off the S-type
and there are major differences in how the head casting was machined.
The can sensors are on the back of the head and the solenoid the controls the vvt is behind the intake can pulley instead of in front of it.
Will need to find out if the ecu can control the newer configuration if the wiring harness is modified to fit.

As you found out there is a good bit of difference between the LS and Jaguar V-6 engines. I think if you want to continue with this swap go over to the Lincoln LS boards for advice.

Otherwise it would be cheaper and quicker to follow Brutals advice and just get another Jaguar motor. 350K is a lot for anything and it really is just wore out!!
