I have 2001 S-type 3.0 V6.

My check engine light comes on and after running diagnostics on it an error came up for an evaporative sensor? (cant remember the exact term) but ive heard of similar errors before, sometimes being caused by minor things like not having the gas cap fully tightened etc.

im just wondering if this error may cause performance problems, where i can get the part and how to replace it.

also any other suggestions on jaguar maitenance would be helpful. i am the type to do all of the work on the car myself. how often should i change the oil and other fluids, what type should i use, how many liters does it take when replacing oil and filter? i am used to changing oil and filter every 3000 miles or less (i know most people go longer especially with the oil filter, but i have learned that often fluid changes go a long way in the lifetime of a car and are usually minor in cost)

any other suggestions or advice would be great

What was the code number? The crankcase holds 6.5 Litres with filter change (at least the 05 3.0 does and I don't think the 01 is different in that respect). The choice of oil is up to your preference. My personal use is Castrol Syntech 5w-30 full synthetic every 5,000 miles.
