2002S Type Sport 8Cylinder needs engine
Owned for ten years and only put 45k miles on it. It now has 90,000 miles on it and is my dream car but quoted $3500 for installed rebuilt engine and that is more than they sell.for. Beautiful Red with nice interior and exterior. At works and so.does everything else, don't know what to do. Where could I get good used engine for.that bold of Jag that would have low miles? Also heard Lincoln L's.would fit . Any suggestions for me beside junk and start over. That price for another car and would not know what I was getting. Can't believe only 90k miles and engine blew. I never ran hot. and always changed oil on time.. Any reliable info and help for this.area around Saint Louis Missouri in Jefferson County. Disabled and my small church is going to help.me but want to make sure money is well spent. Hard working folks. That is for help and God Bless. Will keep if fixed.for forever. Tamara
You did not do anything wrong. That engine and the Lincoln 3.9L that you mention have timing chain tensioners that will fail and destroy the engine.
They must be replaced. All 4 tensioners and all the timing chains. Not cheap and it's too late now. I would forget getting a used engine because that will need the same repairs and it might have already been damaged by this late date.
My best advice is if you still want an S Type is to get a 2003 and up model. Lots of problems were fixed by that time and you will have much less trouble.
Being that you are disabled and the church will be paying for the repair I think a cheaper more economical car is the answer. Don't think a Jaguar is for you in this situation. And I love Jags!!
