2003 S-type 3.0 dies at startup and no codes???

I received a phone call from my mother last night and she tells me that her car won't start... I get my code scanner and drive over thinking that the battery is just dead... wrong.
The car starts, the engine shakes like crazy, and then it dies after about 4 seconds. Then I could have sworn I heard some gurgling noise coming from the transmission case. WTF???
I hook up the code scanner and get only the P1000 code which a quick search on this forum tells me is not a code that can be troubleshooted.
The description my code scanner gave me with this code is:
"Manf Cntrl Fuel & Air Metering, Auxiliary Emission Controls"
She recently had the car serviced (oil & air filter) and the car has about 60K miles.
I'm at a loss. I hope that the jag experts on this forum community can help us out. God forbid she has to take this cat to the *******...

Ignore your code scanner for any P1 code. Look the code up using google (if not here) using:
jaguar code P1000
(or whatever P1xxx)
The shaking may be a biggish air (vacuum) leak. Gurgling tranny - better hope not!!
Lots of faults are so serious (or transient - probably not this one, though) they cannot set a code readable by a cheap/generic scanner or simply cannot set a code at all.

Air leak sounds like the most likely culprit. I would also check for proper fuel pressure (gurgling noise???). Could be a bad line...
Oh, BTW, "*******" is not a wise term to use on this particular forum.. Just so you are aware, some of the best advise comes from those members that are also employed at a dealership..
