Hello -

Wife reported a coolant leak light and some steam/smoke on a short trip home yesterday. I opened the fill cap on the overfill tank and added a gallon of coolant. You could hear a glug glug sound as the fluid moved throughout and started pouring out on the garage floor. I think I have tracked it to the pipe shown in the picture, which doesn't have a cap or hose attached to it - the coolant seems to be flowing out of there (though perhaps not exclusively there alone, it definitely is pouring coolant).

Anyone have an idea what's going on? Is it the water pump or have I lost a hose or cap on that pipe or something? Any coolant I add to the overfill goes glug glug and out of that pipe highlighted in the picture. What is that pipe anyways? Is that the water pump right there?

Any help appreciated...

 

Thermostat housing...

 

The hose (pipe?) runs comes from the radiator into the thermostat housing. Replace it.

 

Ah, so that's the thermostat - that would make sense if it's stuck. What's a decent labor charge to do that? It's a little more than I think I want to tackle...
