2006 S-Type
I just got myself a 3-month old (dealer demonstrator) 2006 s-type with only 8,000 miles on the clock. Traded in a Land Rover Freelander 1.8 petrol for a 2.7 Diesel SE S-Type. MPG for the Land Rover was about 20, where as the new Jag is returning 33mpg.
Performance is pretty good too 0-62 in 8.1 seconds, and top speed of around 140mph, and this from a diesel. Perhaps you guys in the USA think that going to a diesel for a jag is not what jaguar is all about, but when you are pay the equivalent to $7 per US gallon you may think twice. The engine is assisted with twin turbocharges and is as queit as a mouse. I did not tell my friends it was a diesel when I first tok them for a drive, they would never have guessed.
This is my second Jaguar. I have a 1992 4.0 xj-s, which I bought when only one year old. Still have it and has only 63,000 miles on the clock. I must admit that the s-type can perform every bit as well as the xj-s, and I note that the 4.0 and 4.2 s-types perform even better.
It was disappoining to read about some of the problems you guys have had with 2000/1 model s-types, specifically the ignition coils in the 4.0 litre models, I hope that Jaguar have rectified these problems on the newer cars.
I have ordered one of the new Audio Connectivity Modules, so I can connect my iPod, I hope that Jaguar have sorted out the earlier problems from week 19/06.

RE: 2006 S-Type
I have had the Audio Connectivity Module for about a month now and it works great. With the iPod you have to accept that there are limitations, but I think that most of these limitations are down to Apple and the iPod interface.
If you have the Sat-Nav system installed as well what you see on the screen is 6 cd symbols.
The first four cd's correspond to the first four playlists on your iPod. The fifth cd is for all of the music on your iPod. The Sat Nav display will NOT display the current track name, nor does it display any of the track names from the playlists. The last part is disappointing but as I said, this is down to apple.
Sound is great and you can switch between radio, iPod and cd player. Even the audio controls on the steering work.
