2006 S-Type - Gearbox fault
#21
Personally, I think getting 140K out of any car before it dies is pretty good. I remember when it was a miracle if your car just made it to 100K (and a big event when it turned over to 100K). That aside, when one looks at the price of the S-type ($70K) compared to maybe the X-type (35-40K) or other similar cars, one can ask, where does the extra $35K go? Better engineered parts? More features? Or is it just the exclusivity? (Only 5875 2006 S-types were sold in the US!)

I have seen zf trannies come to shop and work fine and guess what?.. after a simple flush they completely fail.(no the flush is done correctly and correct fluids and conditioners are used) Many shops will not even service them upon certain miles. I have seen them reflashed and they also fail and the tcm reject calibration. It is a very sensitive unit, but although one of the smoothest and toughest in the world, but reacts very badly to lost pressures...
