Default 2007 Jaguar S type R

Just picked up a 2007 S type R. Great car.

When I picked up the car, it only had one Key. So I called the local Jaguar dealer and they want 600.00 for a second key. This is insane...

I found one on ebay and now I need to figure out how to program it. The car also did not have the manual so I don't have the key code.

Got electronic manuals from here...
http://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/extf...prod/index.jsp

I setup an account on TOPIx http://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix/i18n/index

but, I need to be certified to get the instructions on how to program the key.

I also do not have the Radio code. Anyone know where I can find that on the car incase I need to change the battery in the future?

Can anyone help?

The radio code should be on a yellow (I think) card attached to the cd/stereo manual.

rgun, first congrats on your purchase, nice vehicle!

As far as programing a key you will have to take it to a dealer on these S Types. I have read here that you can purchase a key off ebay and take it to a Jaguar dealer to have programmed but that is still about $250.00.

Changing out a battery will not cause the radio to loose its code if done within a couple minute period. I was able to change our battery out in less than 3 minutes.

Same issue when I bought my 2003.

I elected to just get a valet key as a back up instead of a full blown key fob, since my wife doesn't drive the car and I didn't really need another fob.

I went through the dealer, the key was cut by Jaguar and shipped to the dealer. Cost was about $150 for the key. Dealer then had to program the valet key - charged 1/2 hour of shop time for that.

I saved about $200 getting the valet key (which can open all the doors and start the car) rather than a fob.

Just another option for you.

I paid about $300 for my 2nd switchblade, bought it off ebay, dealer cut it, and had a locksmith program the FOB.

Really, as in like "Lucky-U Locksmith Shop", I have only read that Jaguar dealers are able to program the FOB. I will have to check with the local guys.

The mom and pop shops don't have the instrument required to burn the PAT sequence. The machine is about 20k. Your major locksmiths however do. I used a1 locksmith which is a nation chain

I too have only one key and fob for my 03 STR. I do have an fob w/key from my ex X-Type 3.0. I wonder if the X-Type fob can be fitted with an extra STR key and programmed for the STR?

I had a similar situation with my Lexus--needed another key, bought a blank on eBay and got it cut, etc. The common understanding among Lexus owners was that only dealers can program the fobs. However, I was able to do it myself after some internet research...had to learn what they call the "Lexus Pedal Dance".

Does anyone know how Jaguar and Lexus fobs differ? Would hate to see this guy pay a bunch of money for something that might literally take him 2 min w/ no tools.

Rick,

I'm pretty sure you are right on this. I bought just the key for about $75 or so and the dealer had to program it. It was no charge though. It's just a backup which is fine for me. What I have is the key portion without the remote section. I may get one later when I get the time.
