Default 28.3 mpg this past weekend!!!!!!!!!!

tires at 42 psi all the way around.Average speed at 74 mph, first 4 hours ran at 27.8. ran at average 76 mph for return, and averaged 28.3. so far that is the best i have done yet. speed verified by GPS, and mileage deductions are doing using gas receipts with mileage marked

Wow. The S-type is awesome on gas. This confirms that the 4.2's are better than the 3.0's gas mileage wise. I was only able to get 28.0 out of my 3.0 last time I took a trip. Of course, I ran the A/C for a good part of it.

I just drove up and down the coast of florida this past weekend.. 500 miles round trip and I averaged 26.8 doing 79mph the whole way with the A/C on. Kind of surprised me as well. I could have done a little better, but I came across a porsche gt2 and a ferrari f430 and that's when my mpg dropped.

It always is.. Those cars were a little out of the Jags league, but it still held its own. They probably never pulled out more than 5 or so car lengths ahead of me. Not bad considering I was running a 4,300lb sedan against two lightweight supercars. My car had the torque to get the jump, but it just doesn't have enough top end power to keep up with those cars.

Hey, don't forget to factor in what you paid for your car vs. what the Porsche and Ferrari owners paid for theirs....

I still say that you just can't beat the bang-for-the-buck value of an S-Type that is at least three or four model years old but still well-cared-for with low mileage....

By the way, have you noticed any problems or significant differences with the new transmission in place? And does it run the ZF fluid (i.e. Shell mineral oil)?
