Default 4.0 ignition coils

I would like to replace the ignition coils in my 2001 4.0 due to random misfire (no codes).

One part supplier listed XR827823 as replacement of the original AJ81373, but once received they don't fit, most obviously they are a too tall to fit under the cover. On closer look AJ81373 is up to vin M21729 and XR827823 for later 4.0 models.

Since original AJ81373 is pretty expensive, I looked aftermarket ones in rockauto and ebay. But many of them seem say they are compatible to both of the Jaguar coils whereas some not.

Does anyone know what are the real differences and how would one know which is a proper part number? I tried searching here but I couldn't find any useful information regarding different 4.0 coils.

Thanks.

The XR827823 is the correct part number for all 4.0L S-Type's. The earlier number was replaced by it a long time ago. Sounds to me like someone boxed the wrong parts for you.

Cheers,

Ok, thanks. They were made by Lucas and the box stated correct number and were only slightly different, a bit longer boot and taller body and they fit otherwise.

I'll just try different brand and hope to get better match.

+1 to xjrguy - XR827823 is a direct replacement for the 2000-2002 4.0 S Type V8 - try and stay away from aftermarket coils...
