Gents,

both my S-es broke on me. My wife's 3.0 lost reverse drive. Drum and band are damaged. I have a spare 5R55 from a 4.0. Can i just swap these? I cannot imagine that Ford supplied 2 versions for the 3 and 4liter engines. As I live in Sweden, no tranny specialists are close so repair is not really an option.

Both gearboxes are Ford 5R55N designation, but the gearbox casing is different for the 3.0 litre. You will need to find a gearbox from another 3.0 litre car, or have the current one overhauled.

 

Thank you sir. Strange though that they share the names. A rebuild it is, as used boxes are very expensive in Sweden...

 

They are the same transmission but the bell housing bolt pattern is different between the V-8's and the 6 cylinder engines.
