Default Aftermarket radio???

Has anyone other than Racer put an aftermarket radio or navigation system in their car, and done the work yourself? I can't find an aftermarket radio wire harness, nor a radio bezel! Any help is greatly appreciated guys, thanks!

I've seen half a dozen S-types with Kenwood dvd head units. The install looked clean.

Thanks a MILLION guys. You're great help, but I already found the wire harness. It's the same as most 86-04 Fords! My new problem, which I was going to start a new thread on, was finding the speedometer wire. I'm pretty sure that some speed wire connects to the radio, since as the speed of the car increases, the volume of the radio increases. However, I was wondering if any of you guys would happen to know which one it is? Or is there any other way to connect it? LMK, and thanks once again! I hope that Envy, NTI or Viz can chime in, since they'd probably be the most likely ones to know!

I thought that happened because the charging system is running slower at idle and when you accelerate and go to full charge the volume comes back up. All of my Jags did that and I never thought that the radio was connected to any sort of speed wire.
Am I wrong?

i dont know where the speed cable is, but i know that u need to connect the nav to it to get a more precise reading and mapping. But it is not necessary. also all the functions on the nav may not work. When i had mine installed on the X, the shop had to find out if an extension wud be required, and luckily it didnt need one, so they just connected it straaight to the speed cable. Sorry i didnt look or ask about where the cable was located. I know that it isnt required as my cousin just got nav in his audi A4 (B6 3.0), and they didnt hook up the speedwire as it is located in the ecu or something like that, but his nav works fine and is pretty damn accurate.

Yeah, the problem here is that with it, the system becomes MUCH more accurate, and I can use the speedometer that comes built in to the system!

awww your precious! mine is really noticable around 65mph a couple of miles slower or faster and there's a big difference in volume. It doesn't appear to be expedential but more set to increase at various speeds.

Biggie which kit did you use to bypass the navi playing DVD’s while in drive mode? I have the stock Alpine navi and wonder how can I bypass the system to play while in drive mode?

Where did you get it connected? Anyway you could try and find out for me which one is the one for speed? I did the bypass by connecting the green cable that goes to the ebrake straight to the power. Along with another cable. I'll take out the radio and see how I connected them again. My buddy helped me out with it!

ill give the place i got it installed and find out about the speed wire. i got the bypass thing done too, but only the ebrake was bypasses, the speed one wasnt, so i can use all functions while the ebrake is down, but as soon as i go faster then about 4mph, i cannot use all the functions. i think that if the speed wire is not connected, then u wont get this problem. not sure if u will have this same issue.

I'm sure I probably will, but most likey I'll connect some switch so that I can turn this on and off! I appreciate about the call to the installers for the speed wire!

Hi there everyone!
I just happened to stumble on to this forum and registered. First, I'd like to say that this forum is a refreshing turn of things to me because it's current and active. Also, alot of the question/comments on here are great info for research and all. So kudos to all!

I have a silver 2000 S-type that had OEM navigation and all. A self-installed HID 6500k kit and K&N air filter. Nothing really special compared to cars that I've owned/tuned in the past.

As for the topic at hand:
I just completed an removal of all OEM stereo and navigational equipment and in it's place I installed a Kenwood DNX7100 with Garmin GXM30 antenna/receiver. Everything looks great and wasn't all that bad installing, considering all the "horror" stories I've read. One of the nice things that I like about the Kenwood is that it doesn't require the VSS wire as it uses the latest GPS information. The OSD for MPH is right on with the speedometer, too. I'll try to post pictures later today if any one is interested in seeing them. Oh, I also installed PAC SWI-X module to control some of the radio's functions with the steering wheel's remote control.

Anyway, thanks for a great forum!
Best regards,
Mike

Sweet man, you got the steering wheel functions working. How about the speedometer? How did you connect that? Congrats and welcome. Pass by the members section and introduce yourself and post some pics.

Thanks for the welcome bigdreams05.
There is no wire to hook up to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). I called Kenwood and inquired about that and the tech said that the DNX7100 is the first product of their's that doesn't use the wire. It uses advanced satellite gps tracking technology.
Oh, another thing .... there is no trick to bypass the "in-motion" restriction to use the navigation when the car is moving like Pioneer unit require. There is an option to turn the "safe" mode off.

I know...simply ground the green wire that connects to the e-brake! That's done!
