Default Ahhh! The dreaded "666"

Dudes, I've just got to post cause vance580 just informed me that at the present I have "666" posts. I don't need anymore bad luck charms wearing me down, so off goes # "667". I know it was discussed by mafioso...does anyone know where I can procure Castrol Multi Import trans. fluid for my 03 STR?

Way to go man you are in the clear now. I think Autozone sells that. I believe that is the same stuff I put in my Audi's trans. I just cant remember if it was Castrol or not but I know I bought it by the gallon there.

I use this fluid for my 2004 X-type and picked it up at a "large" high street retailer (no names, no pack drill) for $4.80ish a quart which is about the best price I have seen.

Would ya guys have the exact name of the trans. fluid i.e. Castrol Multi Import or whatever? And how many quarts to do a pan drop then refill? Or how many quarts required for a full trans. flush-refill?

...Hey bro check this link out for the TRanny Service, JoycesJag helped me out a lot with it. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=30991,
Another very helpful link: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=37802

I bought only ZF Trans fluid "Lifeguard 6", I wouldn't stick anything else, its expensive, but its well worth the investment.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask..

Later.

You should be fine with the 666 as long as you haven't sold your soul to the anti-christ (Lexus!)

Heres a picture of it bfs

You will need 8 quarts for a pan/filter drain and fill. Of that 8 qts. 7.5 qts. is the magic fill number. As far as a total flush, I am sorry I do not know.

...Is this Trans Oil as good as the ZF recommended Lifeguard6? The ZF has a special Mineral oil and is clear in color, I asked around and the ZF distributors won't recommend anything else than ZF fluid in their trannies. They told me it will work but it will start breaking down fast and will have to be changed a lot sooner than the norm.

***Below is an attachment pulled off the ZF website. Scare tactics or whatever, its funny nevertheless

jag79, I am not going to restart the age old question on the above #12 post. There are several Jag techs here that have stated the Castrol and Mobil1 ATF are a "suitable replacement fluid". After much, much research I choose the Castrol. Just do a search and you will find may threads on which fluid is the best for you.

BTW Carelm just posted up a website www.partsgeek.com that offers several choices in ATF.

Wow... What is that attached picture of text? If that is from a ZF distributor, that is pretty nasty. They told you to come back and buy a transmission after using someone else's fluid?? That to me is reason enough to change mine out to Castrol, no matter what price ZF brings their fluid down to. Where is their scientific proof that everything else is inferior? What a bunch of pompus crooks!

So, Castrol fluid change... June 22nd, 2011... (the day after the select edition warranty expires).

Jag79,

I've done a tremendous amount of research on ATF in the 6-speed ZF over the past year, including talking with ZF tech support multiple times. The conclusions I've drawn are essentially this:

1. As long as my car was under factory warranty, I would stay with ZF Fluid (Lifeguard 6) to protect my legal position with Jaguar Corporate.

2. Once my factory warranty expired, when I decide to change my ATF I will switch to Castrol. It meets the ZF-required Shell M1375.4 specs, and I believe that I will have a very reasonable probability of being able to run my ZF with it and experience no significant ZF operational issues.

Rick (joycesjag) is serving as our unofficial beta test case, so you may want to follow his adventures carefully....

Thank you to Mafioso, Jag79, JoycesJag, et all for their contributions to this thread. At the present my 03 STR with 104k is experiencing late downshifts, and a mean "lurch". She has the original atf and now must recieve fresh Castrol Multi Import. I'm mulling over wether to have a complete flush or drop pan and filter and do 8 (7 1/2) quarts, drive her, then repeat as a means to make a more complete transfer of old out-new in. My question is do I pump the new atf out of the quart container into the drain plug hole while running or off?

You pump the new fluid into the fill plug hole, not the drain plug hole. And for at least the last two or three quarts, your engine must be running. Hopefully Rick (joycesjag) will cover more of the details for you with a follow-up post. He did his this past summer and it went like clockwork for him because of his pre-planning and execution....

As previously stated, you will be able to pump about 4 qts. into the pan with vehicle NOT running, then you have to start the vehicle run through the gears and pump in approx. 3.5 qts. more WITH car running ---> IF you shut vehicle off after "top off" with additional 3.5 qts., 2 things will happen 1) you are going to have a huge mess to clean up and 2) you have just wasted your new ATF and your shoes!

When the 7.5 qts or so is replaced with vehicle running YOU MUST REPLACE FILL PLUG BEFORE YOU SHUT VEHICLE OFF.

Sorry for getting abit loud.

...Rick Ricky Rickooooooo wassup! man I dunno soo many choices of ATF fluids to choose from what to choose Hmmm......but for now I don't want to take any chances call me chicken or whatever, I just can't afford to put something in my Tranny and come up with problems later on because I didnt use what was recommended by the manufacturer. Your right this topic is debatable and mind wrenching when it comes down to what is the best Tranny fluid for your Jag. Castrol claims, REdline Claims, just to name a few that those ATF' fluids are in line with the specs of ZF fluid, but where's the proof?? I did a lot of searching around when I had the time, but they all are talk no proof on paper its the same ****. Only way to tell if its lasting up to par is by a few the brave like you "Rick" to test it out and tell us if its all goood in the end......sooo tilll then ZF Fluid is going in my "Shaguar"

Cheers mate!

I ordered from CTSC: transmission pan/filter/gasket kit, sleeve, fill plug, along with 8 quarts ZF brand ATF. They don't offer 8 quart ZF fluid cases. When I asked for 8 quarts, Klaus of CTSC said we should only need 6 quarts max. for a "pan drop/refill" trans. fluid change. He even checked with Jaguar for me. Nontheless he changed his choices of cases of ZF fluid to: 6 quarts, 8 quarts, or 12 quarts. The CTSC website states they hold no responsibility for anyones ZF trans. parts if non "ZF" fluid is substituted. I was going to go with Castrol, but...? Who knows...?
