hi guys, my 2000 jag is a mess. when i put it in drive somtimes it take a few seconds to engage, all other gears engage just fine! when it finally goes it drive, and i hit the gas to hard, it seems like it jumps out of gear,it doesnt jump out any other gear. if i hit the gas slow, its usually fine. once the code. "gear box failiur" came up.

any ideas?

 

It "seems like it jumps" or does it hesitate? I own the 2000 4.0 with the ford tranny . It might be time to have it looked at for valve problems if you have been pushing the car a little too often. They tend to break valve springs which are replaceable. They are cheap springs with a big labor cost.

 

well, when i put it in drive, it takes about 4 seconds before the car goes into gear, if i hit the gas pedal where the rpm is pass 3000, it seems like the trans disengages. i just drive the car in 4th gear, since it only does it in D

 

Sounds like it's time to get it to a trans shop, get it serviced with a valve body rebuild.. Since it is the 5r55 Ford trans shouldn't be too outragous.
