Another troubling sound
My STR is starting to show her age. She will be 12 in May (she's an 03 titled car that was assembled in May of 2002) and has 148K on the clock.
I have done a tone f work on this car and she is part of the family. To get to the point lately when I first start the car and while is cold (plenty of that to this year in the Midwest) it is making a clack clack clack sound. Sounds like a sticky lifter but goes away once up to temp. Anyone else had an issue like this am concerned its a valve or the bearings in the blower starting to go...
Am open to ideas, thanks in advance guys!

Never thought of that, actually that would be great news! I had the coolant hose in the valley replaced a few years back and I really don't want to have to pay the excessive stack of $$$ to tear the blower off again!!
Hi,
I have a non STR 4.0 and I think I share this problem with you.
I would say it sounds like a camshaft knock, but only on tick over. Once the car is warmed up, it goes.
I put it down to a worn camshaft but can explain why it's not there all the time. Perhaps a dry VVT unit?
Thanks
Mike.
