Default Another voice & phone related thread - please don't shoot me...

Hi,

I know this question has been asked a million times before and I apologise for raising it again. However I've trawled through countless forums and posts but have yet to find a definitive answer to my query.

I've recently traded in my X Type for a 56 reg diesel manual S Type. Although I'm loving the car, it niggles me that the voice isn't fitted as in the X Type. I've had it in for it's 120k service with the local dealer and asked them to look into fitting it but they say it's not possible. However it does have the mics in the roof console, so I thought (as newbies generally do...) that the voice and phone could be fitted. If it's not a case of simply fitting the relevant module and wiring it up, can it be retrofitted? I was also wondering if there was anywhere online where you can check VINs to see what can and can't be fitted.

Many thanks.

all s types are prewired, all you need is a voice module and an extra db2 cable to fit in crcuit in the boot cost about £80.00

ps have you got, satnav. phone. cdchanger???

It can be fitted but dealers aren't really up to the job in some cases (and would be expensive, too).

Tell us more about what you've got. A lot of the X-Type knowledge applies in case you've seen Dave's posts on the UK X-Type forum about retrofitting things.

You'll need to avoid the early S-Type module as it has the wrong interfaces entirely.

Hi, thanks for the replies,

It's a 56 reg, diesel manual 2.7 V6. Just picked it up from a service at the main dealer and they told me it isn't prewired and can't be retro fitted. They gave me a print out of the car's features to highlight this. They include:-

Front Stowage Tray with Power Socket
Manual Transmission
No Rear Badges
Mirrors with Interior & Exterior Electrochromic Function
Audio Remote Ice Controls
Radio & Single Slot CD Player
Sports Seats
Reverse Park Control
Sport Suspension
Space Saver Spare Wheel
18x8 Triton Wheels
Front Fog Lamps
Servotronic Steering
Intrusion Sensing
Sports Steering Wheel
Navigation System
Navigation Disc Europe
Front Cup Holder
Cruise Control
Memory Function

It's also got a section for 'Aftermarket Fits' but this is blank.

OK, for future knowledge, so with the nav etc you should also have RCCM (remote climate control module) which is the one that can fail if your DCCV does (see my acronym page!).

You'll have the fibre optic cables (D2B). Electrics almost for sure prewired but likely you'll need the D2B as well as module(s). Pretty much plug and play I think - have a look at previous posts and do read the UK forum too as people retro fit parts fairly often - granted not the voice so often but I suspect it'll be easy.

Grab JTIS if you haven't already as it has the workshop manual and Electrical Guide. Oh, not fully yours as it finished just as the diesel started. Will likely be good enough or else grab the newer stuff off ebay for a few quid.

Eurojag may have the module.

Many thanks for the info JagV8. It is pretty bloody annoying though that the dealer told me it can't be done - and has left me wondering why.

Looks like I've got some reading up to do. I'll keep you posted and hope you won't mind if I need some further info.

Cheers.

I am surprised you have roof microphone but no BT or voice? I did not think the microphone was installed unless the car had one or both of those options?

He may not have the right Mic. There's a grille up there that I think gets mistaken for it? All fixable, even if so.

I really think many dealers just don't realise (or care?) what can be done / what's there / how. No matter. We have access to enough guides, members with knowledge etc to help those willing to roll their sleeves up - most of the time.
