hi guys
got myself a 2000 s type.
having a problem with the auto box,the gears are fine but selection stick is the problem ill try explain

sometimes i try to start the car in P and no go move it to N starts ok
this is not all the time i might add,i have also noticed that when i go into P the reverse lights stay on but again not all the time if i move the selection lever down and up into P reverse lightgo off and i can then start the car from P its as if the box thinks its in R when infact its in P as when its in p somtimes it has the red indicator in R position i have never seen the red light in p is there anyway i can fix this problem myself an ajustment maybe

sounds like your shifter cable is strecthed....

you can try and adjust it.....If you take off the center console top. there are 2 jam nuts on the side of the shifter you can adjust those and see if u can make it better...if not the cable must be replace...dont worry its not a big job

if this continues to happen there are some internal tranny modifications that need to be done...but before i went that far i would try a cable
