Battery charging
Hi, I have a 2007 S type 3.0 which is in good condition and has covered 127000 km.
I recently took it to a local auto electrician to get the aircon regassed, but it was showing signs of leakage so a new compressor was fitted along with a new filter cartridge.
When the electrician went to start the car, it had a flat battery and of course a whole range of error codes came up when he put a new one in.
I was a bit surprised as I have been keeping the battery on a trickle 'maintenance' charger when not in use, but to be fair, the battery was 4.5 yrs old.
Anyway, to cut a long story, he tells me that it is not advisable to keep the battery on the charger as it might stop the car from going in to 'sleep mode', nor is it a good idea to remove the battery and keep it charged over winter etc. as this could also cause problems, error codes etc.
Sounds like bs to me, as I think it best to keep the voltage up when sitting idle. I only do about 2000 km a year and it sits in the garage during winter while we head north with our Jeep and caravan!
What do others do when their cars aren't being used?
