Any suggestions on which Brand Spark Plugs to use on a 03' S type R? I looked around in the forums and got mixed reviews of NGK's, Denso's etc....but I would appreciate more info on this b/c I'm about to replace my old plugs on my STR.

go with the (stock) factory fit .there good for 100k ,on the v8 ,but it's a good idea to take them out ,at about 50k so they don't get stuck.

 

If you plan to port/polish/pulley your STR, you may want to hold off on plugs...Copper- core plugs may be the way to go.

Hi jag79, Why are you changing the plugs? Too many miles? They should be good for many thousands of miles. Signs of fouling or weak spark? I'd suggest using manufactures plugs unless you plan on modding i.e. supercharger, etc.. Check posts from a few days ago. Dyno Bob of Stiegmyier suggested to ttwotees copper core plugs with part number (recent "Snake Bite" posts).

 

Hey bfsgross, I'm changing my plugs b/c my STR has 86,000 miles on it, dont really know how the previous owner kept this car in tip top shape. It drives great, but still I'm doing a full tune up on it Oil filter, Air filter, and might as well do the plugs to be on the safe side. About Snakebite upgrade kit, nahhhhhhh i'll pass, I'm still debating on either get stock spark plugs or NGK's? Anyone have used NGKs on the STR's? Please do tell your experience using them.

I might have NGK, but could be Bosch, I really can't remember. They've been working fine whatever they are. Changed all of them this year and just hit 100k last month. I should still have a box laying around from the plugs, I'll check to see which it was when I'm home later and let you know.

 

How did the NGK plugs work out? I just bought the ngk iridium spark plugs for my 03 STR, but have yet to install them.

 

Dude I haven't tried the NGK's thats why I was looking for someone who has, now since you got them, you have to tell me how they working out for you,lolz (you are our guinea pig for this experiment) ,
By the way can you tell me the NGK part# that you used for your 03' STR, I too have the same model and year.

No problem man, I'm still looking up how to install spark plugs in the car. everytime I try to look at an attachment from a post I get a error message "you do not have permission to access this page" Anyways, the part number is bkr5eix-11 stock no. 5464.

 

Thanks bro for the part numbers, I just got the Workshop CD on the STR's today, when I get a chance I'll try to copy the replacing of the plugs pages and post them on here . By the way when I was at the Jag dealership, each plug cost around 15 bucks , the person who was working there was telling me NgK's are good, but said the OEM plugs for the STR model are perfectly gapped etc.. etc.... and that the STRs are veryyyyyy sensitive to any change in the gas and electrical timings, basically was saying stick with OEM parts :P(Bu of course he works there and he has to stay nice things). I only bought a cabin filter from there for 21 bucks.

 

Don't bother! Anyone who doesn't know how to change the plugs and wishes to will (and should!) get their own jtis.

Also... many such DIY things have already been posted, often with photos, but the snag is some people just will not search and read them. Yours would be no different, except missing the photos.

 

I would wonder exactly what sort of real world experience the average person working at a dealership actually has that permits them to make these type of statements with such certainty.

 

Thanks for info. You can't ever go wrong with OEM but the NGK's were only 6.50 a plug and I got them from Kragens in SoCal. Where were you able to get the workshop CD. I'm getting ready to do pads and rotors today. I got Akebono pads and EBC rotors.
