Default Bluetooth - the easy solution

After several attempts to fit Bluetooth to my prewired, 8 wire system in my 2003 STR, I got as far as the system recognising it had a phone fitted, but not recognising the Bluetooth. I even tried wiring a specific Bluetooth loom (cut from an old X type loom) using the pin to pin guides on the forums, but to no avail. Then I came across the post that identified the updated phone module with Bluetooth incorporated (ie no need for a BTUM) - part no 7W93 10D893-AB. Bought one on ebay, plus a £4 Bluetooth antenna. Fitting involved a new aerial connector from Halfords (Autowire kit) to adapt to the antenna fitting on the module, then crimped on the miniature connector to match the Bluetooth antenna £2.00 ish from Maplins. Fitted it and fired it up and voila - perfect Bluetooth, worked straight away with my Iphone5. Bluetooth aerial picks up fine even with it in the boot, so no need to disturb anything to reroute into the cabin. Simples!

still a bit confused, I have a 2002 STR with nav and phone. No Bluetooth and voice.
If I replace my "old phone module" with the upgraded part 7W93-10D893-AB, I have plug and play phone and Bluetooth?

If you have an early model, one with a cassette player, and you absolutely, positively MUST have Bluetooth, there is a "rats nest" solution that I've tried, and it works! Note: No voice - just streaming Pandora or Satellite Radio.

1) Get a high quality cassette adapter with a 3.5mm mini plug. ($10 or so on Amazon).
2) Get a Harmon-Kardon BTA-10 Bluetooth receiver (about $45 - it's the one I tested with and still use. There are others in the same price range on Amazon). You will need a USB power adapter for another $6 or so. Get the one with multiple USB sockets - Bluetooth and device radio are power hogs.
3) Plug the 3.5 mm plug from the cassette adapter into the BTA-10.
4) Pair your streaming device with the BTA-10.

Works like a champ! Samsung Galaxy S6 and Apple iPad Air were used.

When you're done, you can cram all of these into the center console, or glove box if need be. At least no one would want to break into your car, seeing that you only have a stock cassette player in your dash!
