Bought An S Type...Well Sort of...
I always thought those cars were so very pretty. Nice find.
But what year/motor? The later ones had the same 4.2 and ZF as the post-update S-Types. Those should be very, very, nice.

I don't think they ever released them with the 4.2L/ZF combo. Shame.
No Ford never updated the LS/Tbird to the 4.2l or the 6 speed ZF.
But in 2003 they did improve the timing tensioner's on the 3.9L. Improved power with the addition of variable valve timing and a bunch of smaller improvements. It would have been nice if they did use the better 4.2L/6 speed combo!

I bid on an 04 T-bird with 63K miles a couple of weeks ago at a local auction. Thought it would be fun to have one. It sold for around $12k + auction fees. For a 2 seater, it wasn't very fast and I didn't like how it cornered compared to my STR. But they are a well built. I believe that the T-bird will hold its value and start to go up in value sooner than S-types.

I nearly bought one when new, but their lack of power and heft gave them handling and performance that couldn't match their looks. That being said, I would buy a low mileage example now if a good deal came along.
