Default A/C fan weirdness

Listers,

Occasionally I will come out to my can and find the A/C fan running. I think this may be the source of my flat battery issues. Has anybody else experienced this?

Which fan exactly?

Do you mean the big electric fan behind the radiator and AC condenser? I think this is controlled by the PCM. One input is the coolant temp sensor. If above a certain temperature at shutdown, the PCM commands the cooling fan to keep running for a few minutes. However, I don't think the PCM would turn on the fan if the engine had been off for a while, even if a bad sensor falsely indicated high coolant temp.

Or do you mean the fan for the climate control ducts in the dash? That one should only run with the ignition on.

Scroll down to page 3.4.8:

"A feature unique to V8 vehicles allows interior heating to be continued after the engine has been switched off. With the ignition switch in position II, the climate control system will continue to provide interior heating until the engine cools to a predetermined level (maximum 20 minutes)."

Is that what you've noticed?
