Default Cam cover gasket still leaking

Sealing the cam cover gasket where the 'head meets the front cover' has been a challenge.
I think the problem may have been that I didn't pay too much attention to the workshop manual by following the instruction of "The application of sealant MUST be 3mm diameter by 12mm long." and "Install the valve cover immediately after applying the sealant".

I did place a much larger amount of silicone and that's probably what's causing the small leak in that area. Also afterwards I paid more attention to the 'Permatex Ultra Blue' packs instructions on the rear which mentions to first 'finger tighten until material begins to squeeze out' and 'let dry for one hour then tighten to torque'.

I will remove, apply the factory recommended sealant amount and not 'finger tighten and wait the hour' this time, rather 'Install the valve cover immediately after applying the sealant". Which I take the workshop manual means to tighten to torque immediately after applying sealant.

I assume I can reuse the new gasket. Any suggestions if I should clean the gasket with any particular solvent? I will clean the head face again as well as the plastic cam cover groove.

Photographed with a small round purple mirror under the leak. I think too much sealant is causing the leak in this area.
