Default Alternative Valve Cover Gasket

I'd like to find a more robust and less leak prone valve cover gasket for my Jag.

Is there something like a FelPro gasket available? Felpro's site says no.

I replaced one and its leaking. I may have over torqued it or a section may have slipped out to in. Regardless I'm leaking oil from the gasket and I'd like to fix it once and for all.

Thanks

Eric

If you do not replace the (14?) isolators, the gasket and spark plug well seals will not have as much 'crush' applied and will probably leak soon after gasket renewal.

The 'isolators' are made of a rubber type material and will deform over time. They provide the pressure to the cam cover needed to seal.

You could just use metal washers/spacers IF you are REALLY careful to not overtorque and crack the plastic cam cover.

I just use new ones and go on with my life.

I used the isololators that came in the cover gasket kit.

Still leaky

No better than OEM replacements?

Thanks

Unless you are referring to gaskets for you sunbeam, no one knows for sure what engine is leaking.

From my original post:

My Alpine leaks nothing.

Thanks

I wasn't trying to be funny. What year Jag? There is a significant difference in the gaskets for the AJ26 vs. AJ27 engine.

Eric - are you looking for a FelPro set compatible for your jag, or saying you installed a FelPro and not satisfied? I actually replaced all mine with a FelPro set and been leak free since. I did respect torque wrench settings though. Got the set at Advanced Auto Parts for roughly $60. If interested, I can send you part number. Was listed for Lincoln LS.

Cheers

My car is a 2000. And no the gasket I installed was OEM not a FelPro.

It was like a big black rubber band and a bunch of o rings.

It leaks like crazy. Like I said I may have folded a corner or it may have squeezed out.

Please send me the FelPro part number if you have it.

Thanks

Eric

The Advance AP part number is VS 50724 R. That is for a '02 Lincoln LS and is a FelPro complete set. Using a promo code the price is $48.29 on line. Best deal around.

The gasket the Jag dealer installed a year ago was leaking at the lower rear corner. Took the cover off, cleaned the head mating surface very carefully and smoothed it down with 400 grit, put it back together with a dash of Permatex black silicone sealant at the two points where the castings are joined. No more leak.

Moral of the story : the gasket is only as good as the surface it is applied to.
