2001 XJ8 Diff
I am in the process of replacing the diff on my 2001 (Nov) XJ8. The problem I have is that the replacement I have acquired has, at some stage, been dropped and damaged two of the studs that the half shaft bolts on to. How easy is it to remove the output shaft to replace these studs.
Thanks. Bill W.

According to a very entertaining read away from JF, someone working on a X300 differential faced the same problem.
He solved it with the help of "Fred the File". Apparently, the studs will "almost" make it
out. The trick is to rotate the flange to the spot where a 3mm notch can be filed out
to enable the stud to make it out. Might work on a X308 since the flanges are so
similar.

Just remove the snap ring and pull the stub axle out. You can leave the snap ring around the flange but there is a TSB for removing/installing it correctly.
I don't remember where the bulletin is.

Thanks Motorcarman,
I saw the snap ring, but my circlip pliers are not robust enough to remove it. I assume that a more heavy duty pair are needed. Any ideas where I might get such a tool ???
