These are centric rotors. Look at the part numbers.

Well there you go. Same parts for cheaper. Thank you! I'll try to keep up and do a review after I install them.

Looks like the "base S-Types" (all but the Brembo STRs) use ventilated rears which are 288mm (i.e. not 300mm and not solid like the rears on the STR with Brembos). At least, up to 2004.5MY (possibly 2004.75MY).

I'm not too sure what they are next (for about the next year), but from 2006MY they look to be 326mm. Even that needs checking.

---

If the STR with Brembos rear rotors are 330mm then JTIS is correct (good) but the jag brochures are all wrong (bad). JTIS doesn't cover the cars of 2005MY and later as far as I can see.

In the USA the 03-05 STR cars have high performance Brembo Calipers and then after that it changed. If there are exceptions to this on the USA cars I haven't heard of it but I guess that's why you supply the vin number when asking about parts. So check with the Jag dealer first and then order the approriate parts from the vendor you like. I'vr never heard of differing roto sizes for STR vehicles equiped with the Brembo calipers.

Brembo also makes more garden variety rotors for all sorts of cars so just because you're getting "Brembo rotors" doesn't mean they're correct. It's the Brembo calipers on the STR model that are the correct identifiers to use.

Again, that's what I believe to be the case for USA supplied cars.

AFAIK there were no STR vehicles sold in the USA prior to the 2003 model.

By "STR with Brembos" I mean "STR with Brembo calipers", which I think is the same as jag use terminology-wise. It does get VERY cumbersome typing it in every time let alone reading it.

I've seen a number of people on here get confused by vendors who tell them "yes they're brembo rotors" which is not specific enough to get things correct.

I've gone to autoparts stores & websites where you have to give them the vin number and they still come back with the wrong part. Hopefully Jag dealers don't do this.

caveat emptor

Got it Bob.
Thanks. It is confusing but now I have the correct part numbers. This is great!! Don't need to spend the obscene prices that Jag wants for these rotors. Last time I checked they were over $750/pair!!

Just a we bit of trivia... The "model years" are different for Europe than the US. We all got the same changes, they just show up first in Europe based on production runs...

Hence the following.. First year for S Type is 99 in UK and 2000 in US
The refresh / and introduction of the R was 2002.5 in UK and 2003 in US.
The brake changes for all S Types (the same time the R lost Brembo calipers the std. lost two piston calipers) occurred mid 2005 in the UK and 2006 in the US. That one isn't as cut and dry since I'm sure they ran out the supply than transitioned production to the new brake hardware..even more reason why R drivers need to give their vin and double check the supplier when ordering brake parts.

BTW.. bought Centric pads for the S v6 and Centric rotors and pads for the mini-van.. all have performed extremely well...

If somebody has an 05 STR that didn't come with the HI-PO Brembo calipers that would be a curiosity.

But basically, if you calipers that say Brembo on them as pictured in all the literature then I'm certain the aforementioned rotors are what you want.

BTW, now that my car is over the 18K mark after one trip from Atlanta to NJ and another from NJ to Quebec and back my rotors don't look so nice no more ...

It seems like the stock pads chew these rotors up pretty darn fast. This surprises me.

I guess I'll have them turned if possible just before I throw on the Akenbobo pads.

Can anyone comment on whether the Akebono pads are any gentler on the rotors than the stock pads?

The 05's in the US most likely all came with Brembo's. UK / European spec cars got the change first..

Yea, I know, common sense, but you know how that goes...

It depends on pad composition. Ceramic pads are harder on rotors then semi-metallics. I use a semi-metallic Centric pad that was listed as a low dust performance pad. These have performed great and I will buy them again. Also, bought a set of drilled and slotted rotors since I keep driving my car like it's an R (the wife says I can't get an R because she doesn't want to have to keep bailing me out of jail ). They generate noise on braking but have and still perform the best of any brake setup I've ever tried. Also, they don't dust the wheels like the stock composition...

I recently installed a set of Centric rotors all around on my '04 STR. 365mm front, 330 mm rear. Perfect replacement and they work just fine. I've been to their R&D engineering and their rebuilding facility--I know someone who works there, so if you need a set and are in CA, PM me.
