Default Changed out the VVT solenoid gaskets

I had a bit of oil seeping out from around the VVT solenoid seals on my valve covers on my 06STR so I change the gaskets.

One thing I found out is that many places that sell these gaskets will list them as being applicable for lots of other years and model Jaguars but they leave 06 STR off the list.

you also find the price for those gaskets run the gamut from being reasonably priced too outrageously priced.

Of course I wanted the gaskets that were reasonably priced but it was those reasonably price gasket listings never listed the 06 STR is being one of the vehicles it fits.

Finding the actual Jaguar part number for that gasket was like pulling teeth too but I found it. Its

AJ82856

So one of the places I found the gaskets recently price was at FCP Euro www.fcpeuro.com/ and they had it listed for less than five bucks but of course they only list that gasket as being applicable to S types from 2000 to 2002 for the 4.0 engine. Not the 4.2 sc

I figured that the same solenoid was common among every Jaguar that used VVT solenoid and the likelihood that they’ve changed gaskets is slim to none and at the low price of $4.79 what do I have to lose so I bought two.

Fcp euros applicability list. FAIL!

Guess what? they fit

Installation was a breeze. just had to disconnect connectir to the solenoids, pry the old gasket out with a small pick and push the new one in without poking a hole through it.

I took a couple pictures because I was pretty surprised at the difference in the inner diameter of the old hardened leaky worn out gasket as compared to the new ones. take a look see. what do you think?

Old on top New on bottom

2 olds, 1 new

Easy to see the old worn out inner diameter is much larger

uro lasts like half a year. like clockwork i'd order one up from worldpac and warranty it out every 6 months.

the legit ones last like 15 years and if you order through ford they're like 10 bucks. 2W9Z-6A545-AA

Merry Christmas everybody! Thanks Xalty for posting this I’m looking at doing the same on my 06 STR as mine are starting to seep.

Eventually looking at having the valley hose done too along with blower ported & stand-alone ecu. Already ordered LSD that’ll be going in next month or so hopefully. Valley hose & such will be done around the same time I think.

Mclovin22 be sure and make a thread on that LSD project!
That was the number one draw back when I had my old 2005 STR. Great car but unbelievable that the car came with an open diff and almost 400 ft-lb of torque!!

We had a few options but pretty expensive one way and a bunch of part changing to go with stock parts.

I’ll be sure to. Tom Lenthall LTD over in England is sourcing myself a Quaife LSD and I’ll be installing it once it arrives over here.

Might even have some mustang LSD’s as a backup as one fellow used bits from a mustang rear end to make a LSD for his XJR. Not sure that’d be totally necessary as Quaife have a lifetime warranty but we’ll see.
