Changing Oil and Where To Get Info on Maintenance
I'm in the process of doing some basic maintenance on my recently acquired 2000 S-Type.
In terms of changing the oil. the Jag maintenance sheet states to "renew the drain plug assembly". Is this just a crush washer? Is this required for every oil change or just based on visual inspection?
In addition, I want to perform other maintenance so I purchased the JTIS CD ROM on Ebay. The problem is that it doesn't seem the cover basic maintenance, mainly bigger service jobs like removing the engine. I couldn't find changing the oil, while I know is this is quite simple, I though it would be included in the JTIS CD. In addition, it's not very descriptive. For example, it tells you to remove an item and it will have a cartoon picture associated with it but that's it. It doesn't tell all the other issues that will come up when removing that item. I've used a Cylmer manual for my BMW motorcycle and that manual was awesome. So are there other sources of getting maintenace and service for 2000 S-Types besides the JTIS CD (and this forum)?
Sincerely,
Jim

I'm with you on the JTIS CD. I was disappointed when I got mine for the same reason s you point out.
I did a google on Jaguar S-Type repair books and could not find any. You might do a goggle on S-Type oil change. As I recall, I read somewhere that it was no different from any other car. There is a plastic shield under the engine you have to remove first and then its like any car.
The last oil change I got was from a Jaguar mechanic and using synthetic oil it cost me $125! DIY should save a lot!
Good luck and please post the details of the job when you do it.

The 4.0 is easy. Remove the drain plug, new one will have washer on it. The filter is right at front of engine. Takes 7 quarts.
The 3.0 is trickier, although same procedure except the filter is at rearside (drivers) of motor. Above the power steering lines and right in front of the cat. Also takes 7 quarts.
The 2000-2002 S did not have the engine undertray. 2003 is when that malarky started.
You think it is tough to do an oil change using JTIS? Try working on these for a living and having to use that kind of guide to work on the car.....lol. We find alot of shortcuts. The pictures suck.

I'm actually considering going to a fast oil change place. I have been using them for years for my wife's Quest and when I had an Explorer (before I sold it and bought my Jag). They sell Royal Purple oil and the oild change would be about 90 bucks. Still expensive but a lot less than the Jag mechanic or the dealer.
Any thoughts?
