New Jaguar S-Type Owner
Hey guys! I just bought a 2005 Jaguar S-type. I want to take extra good care of this baby, so I decided to join the forum to get as much information as I can about Jaguars! So far it's been an amazing ride.
One burning question I have: how many miles do you guys run before an oil change? The manual says 3k, which is what I would like to stick with. However I see all the time that with "modern" sythetic oil it can go 4-5. Is this true?
Glad to be here!

More car info, please.
I notice it has the old grill but I thought that by 2005 everything had the mesh grill (or was I wrong about that).
================================================
Jaguar - it's not an automobile, it's a Motorcar
Current: '08 S-Type 4.2 "Satin Edition" (250.06 hp / 259.67 torque)
Past: '05 X-Type 3.0/auto Jaguar Racing Green

I'll have to find it, JagV8. Like I said, I was most likely mistaken reading 3000 miles.
It's a '05, 130k miles, 3.0L V6 engine. The previous owner was a mechanic and did his own oil changes and routine maintenance. When I went to look at the car I was shocked at how immaculate the car was. No rust, scratches, everything was in great shape; it drives even better.
And yes it's the old kind of grill, I like it personally.

Welcome to the forum Z.
Your grill is actually a 2005 OEM grill. An "old style" meaning preface lift grill would not fit and would not have as many vertical slats.
I change Joyces Jag oil around the 6,000 mile mark, but as stated manual calls for 7,000 intervals.
Be sure to check out the DIY section here as well. There are alot of maintenance tips most with terrific detailed instructions and photos. might want to check out your cabin air filter, details in the DIY.

Yep, I just looked it up in our 2005 manual. First time I have had that thing open in years! I just cannot recall where/when I came up with the 6,000 mile intervals. Oh hell well.....

Rick,
We both settled on 6,000-mile intervals in early 2009 shortly after you purchased joycesjag. We agreed that 10,000 miles was a bit too lengthy and 3,000 miles was far too wasteful, so 6,000 miles was targeted as our magic number. It has obviously worked well for both of us because we're still here....

As are the 10K interval owners, AFAIK.
The interval chosen by the OEM is not an ultimate ragged-edge limit- it's an already conservative number designed to encompass even the lowest common denominators. This ensures that premature engine wear due to contaminated oil does not become a reliability issue- not that Jag ever had experience with those.
Reducing that figure yet again is double belts and suspenders.

Even back in the 80's I was never a belt with suspenders kinda guy, it was one or the other.
Jon, you must just be correct 2 above. Boy its been a long time in ownership. I still cannot get Joyce into something newer.
Since Joyce only puts on about 6,000 miles a year. I will stick with changing the 710 once a year.
