Default Check engine light

About three weeks ago the light came on. Checked the codes at Autozone and they were P050B, P0171 nad P0174. Cleared the codes and the light stayed on. Three days later the ligt went off for about six days then came back on. Checked the codes and got P0171 and P0174, no P050B. Light stayed on for about a day and went off again and has not come back on.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? The car seems to be running fine, smooth and quiet.

P0171 and P0174 are bank 1 and bank 2 lean conditions, the first code Im not too sure about.

I would start by checking for air leaks

It can be an air leak or misfires. As both are flagged it's likely an air leak. You may be able to hear it but if not a cheap way to confirm is an elm327 OBD tool ($20 or so on ebay) and then look at the fuel trims at idle and at fast (2500-3000rpm) idle.

If you have a badly fitting or non-standard air filter or the like - QUICK change it for a properly fitting one!

Ok P050B O2 sensors out of calibration. Theres a TSB for that 30329

Nice catch!

But it looks like S303-031 doesn't it? Not sure whether I mean "as well" or "instead" - thoughts?

fogey0 - either way, I think this is one for a dealer. Needs a reflash of the computer.

I don't see anything about the P0171 & P0174 in the TSB so ask the dealer.

If you have a warranty this may all be free but if not I'd think maybe half an hour of a tech's time, or so. Best guess I can manage, sorry.

The P0171 & P0174 are lean Bank 1 & 2 combustion too lean. I am unable to find P050B but If it means O2 sensor out of calibration I would be looking for a vacuum leak first.

I started getting P0171 P0174 after I did a hard reset and it went away after 100 miles. but I did notice my EGT was way up there.

Yes... but it omits the one I listed (of which I have an actual copy), by the look of it.

Bearing in mind the specific TSB(s), I wouldn't be looking for a leak (well, not looking hard) until I'd had the TSB reflash done. The other codes could be bogus (artifacts).

The 2006MY STR has quite a number of new (emission-related) parts as well as software, none of which are on my car or the 2003 cars etc. (It has VVT as well.)

Hard reset- Hold the negative battery cable to the positive for about 30 seconds to remove all volitile memory from all the modules.

EGT- Exhaust Gas Tempratures

Really... there's a known fault that needs a reflash to cure it. Messing with battery is at worst going to put off going to have the reflash done. Does the delay cause damage? Want to risk it?
