Default Clarification on HID adjustment (Already searched)

Hi all,

So, I fixed my HIDs the other night ($.16 in parts). Thanks Brutal. Anyway, I'm wondering about prober adjustment. My side to side adjuster doesn't seem to work, the up and down one seems to work a little, and the new screw adjusts things nicely. Two questions.

1) Does the auto adjuster (that does seem to be working) know where the lights are pointed and adjust them properly regardless of the manual adjustment?

2) If not where should I adjust them to. Based on parking the car 10-15 feet from the garage door, how high should the top of the beam hit?

Thanks all,
Fred

Here is a picture of where the adjusters are and which one does what. They are plastic and very easy to destroy. So if they are not moving the threads might be stripped or damaged.

1. No the adjuster assumes you have the lights properly adjusted. So it then just tries to maintain this position. The STR only auto adjusts up and down.

2. There are measurements to adjust the light too. I find them too low. I slowly adjusted mine up until I got people flashing me then I lowered them a bit. Not correct but I need to see!!

Over here workshops (including MoT test places) have a device (sorry, don't know its name) that lets a mechanic adjust the lights properly. It has lenses/prisms and is on wheels which run on metal guides bolted to the shop floor (so the device is properly set up). Just move it in front of the headlight, peer in its top and adjust until the light is positioned properly. Easy. Don't your shops have them, too?

They do. But not used often enough!! It's just called a headlight aimer. Pretty simple device!
