Climate Control Help Needed.
Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping that someone may have come across this issue before and can offer some advise on how to resolve it.
My 2001 3.0 V6 started playing up a couple of months ago, intermittently the heater would go full hot. This being systematic of the heater valve I had this changed (note that the old valve was only 12 months old). Initially this seemed to fix the issue but within two days the passenger side vents were blowing hot air whilst the drivers side blowing cold and the temperature set on lo.
Taking the pragmatic view I changed the DCCM module out and again this appeared to fix the problem for about a week.
After checking the plug on the heater valve and cleaning the contacts up with contact cleaner also seemed to have a short term positive affect, but again today it is hot on the pasinger side and cool rather than cold on the drivers side. The voltage was changing at the engine bay harness with the temp on the DCCM being changed up and down....BUT...the old heater valve when tested on the bench seems to be sound and working, so my assumption is that the new one is also good and this is another issue?
Has anyone come across this before or know the best way to diagnose the issue?
Thanks
Jazzman

Congrats on having an unusual version of climate problems!
Sorry I don't know what's wrong but something happening infrequently tends to be a chafed wire, failing sensor or the valve sticking (this last one looking a bit unlikely in your case).
See if you can make it happen on demand or at least often.

Finally had both the time and weather to get out and have a look, it would appear that your prediction of a chafed wire is the cause.
Somewhere from the left hand side dash to the engine bay behind the radiator the passenger side vale wire is broken.

We have had reports of wire loom problems behind the front bumper. Maybe worth dropping it to take a look?
Also the front wheel well liners. They are easy to take out and then the wire harness is right there.
Let us know if you find the problem as it does not seem to be the normal style problem.
