Hi,

This is my first journey into S-Type repair. Never even drove and S-Type until today :-)

My neighbor just bought one, a 2005 V6....nice car, 100k miles.....and I'm trying to help him a bit.

One small issue is a noise from the steering column when turning. I'd describe it as "clockspring noise", and I'm pretty confident that's what it is, but I'm not sure if there are any S-type specific issues that might point to something else. It's the squeek/whish sound when turning the wheel that I've heard on many different cars over the years and always attributed to the clockspring.

I found a bulletin (JTB00034) the mention repositioning the column to eliminate a noise....but never actually describes the noise in question so I'd don't know if the fix would be applicable.

I searched "clockspring noise" and only found a couple postings which didn't really help.

Any comments or suggestions?

It needs the fluid additive for the P/S. Do a search for P/S noise. The additive is only about $12. If your real good flush the P/S first. Then refill. Then finally add the magic juice.

Got it! Found TSB JTB00055 which pertains to a noise from the rack being telegraphed up thru the column and the special additive

The additive worked for our particular S-Type's noisy steering. Used it in March 2010 following the TSB's instructions, and the cooing sound was immediately eliminated. It has remained tomb-quiet ever since. Let us know if it works for your neighbor....
