Smile Cold Start

Hello... I have a 2003 S Type - I live in Florida and on really cold days my car doesn't seem to like to run until the engine is warm. In the morning when I crank it the car shakes a little and wants to run in "limp mode", Restricted Performance comes up however, once the engine is warm no problems what so ever; my only delima is that it takes like 15 minutes to warm up. Not long ago I had my mechanic replace my coolant container as it was leaking since I am in Florida I wonder if my mechanic only put in coolant , not expecting the unseasonal frigid temperatures that we have been having and not a coolant/anti-freeze mixture. I did buy some long lasting orange coolant/antifreeze however, my container is full. I am due for an oil change at the end of the month should I have my coolant container drained and then refilled or do you think I will be okay to wait as I don't want to damage my car???

Thanks a Bunch

I'm near Montreal Canada so I'm sure my definition of a 'really cold morning' is quite different than yours, even given the present weather you're having.

Generally speaking 'coolant' and 'antifreeze' are two different names for the same product. Coolant is a more appropriate name as it protects the engine from overheating better than straight water in addition to providing anti-freeze propertiesl. I doubt that your mechanic used the incorrect fluid, but if doubt go ask.

In any case, an error there would not contribute to the poor running while cold you mention.

Did your mechanic BLEED the system? Some mechanics are not aware that on our vehicles there is a procedure to follow to remove all air bubbles out of the system. I'd call and make sure he did this. If he does say he did, I would strongly suggest that he describe the bleeding process he performed.
As far as the "rough idle" when was the car tuned up last, plugs air filter etc...?

Heres a link to explain the proper bleed procedure, pay attention to #6 response!
