Connecting mp3 player

Hi,

I cant seem to find an answer to this question but I am a new member and I may have missed something in my searches so please accept my apologies if this has been covered.

I have been trying to figure out how to put an mp3 connector into my 2003 S-type. On the XK8 forum there is an excellent post showing how to wire an mp3 jack into the CD changer AI-net cable. This sort of fools the car into thinking your mp3 player is the CD player.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...llation-80819/

I figured that hack would work for me so I bought the various bits and pieces I would need before pulling out the CD changer. However, when I did pull out the changer I was disappointed to find that it is not the standard Alpine model I expected. It is Jaguar branded but Hungarian made and instead of an AI-net cable it has two cables - one with two wires and one with 4 or 5 I think.

I wonder if anyone knows what these wires are, and which wires are the right, left and ground signals that I need to connect to a RCA cable or jack?

Or perhaps this simply wont work with this model...

Any ideas?

Since you have a 2003 you can use a factory solution. Search for ACM (Audio Connectivity Module). Expensive but gives USB, IPOD and RCA connections and it's controlled from the factory NAV screen.

It's not up to current standards but it works fine. I only use USB for music so it does what I want.

I added it myself and liked how it rides the fiber optic bus like all the other devices. If Jaguar opened it up I think you could add almost anything!

I have the same year and did a little research on hooking my cell phone to the radio to listen to Pandora. I found out because of the fiber optic bus running to the cd changer there isn't an easy way to tap into the stock radio. You can buy an ACM from jaguar but it's running about $500 new. I opted for a cheap fm modulator to get me by which works pretty good and cost less than $20.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I considered the ACM option but my car does not have a NAV screen and fibre optic cable. Also, I was a bit put off by reviews from a number of users. The FM option is a possibility - I had this installed in another car and it works, but not very well.

I am currently using a cassette player adapter and I will probably stick with this in preference to FM input unless I can figure out how to get a direct mp3 port in there somewhere.

Thanks for the ideas.

Yes cheapest would be the FM adapter. I wanted the quality to match the other inputs. But it is over priced now even more? I paid about $320 but that was several years ago.

If you don't have the premium audio in your 03, I would recommend looking into replacing the head unit with a nice double din with nav or at least bluetooth. Might not be too difficult since you don't have to deal with the fiber optic cable.

I would recommend something from Crutchfied if you want to do it yourself. They include an adapter kit with face plate and wiring adapter so all you have to do is plug it into the existing wiring. I would check with other forum members here who have already done this to make sure there wont be any issues. You can get something simple with bluetooth starting around $150 or get one with navigation starting around $500.
