Default coolant leak

So as i left the car i noticed the smell of coolant. After a quick look around in the engine area, nothing jumped out at me. The coolant level in the overflow tank was lower than it should be, not low enough to trip sender. I topped it off. Ive seen here and other places where the over flow tank itself leaks due to cracking. Where on the tank due cracks develop? What other areas should i be looking at for a slight/slow leak?

What model / year is your car?

Anyway, just in case, have a look at this thread:

On the 03+ very common for a hairline crack at the overflow hose nipple - right at the root, inthe filler neck...also at the other end of that hose on the radiator hose assy - the part that looks like a tiny tank turret.

If its not the overflow tank, it's probably the heater control valve. Two most common coolant leaks. Be careful driving around with a leaky tank. My x350 XJR blew the nipple off the car at a red light and coolant started spewing everywhere......

WhiteXKR's wife's car had a slight leak at the nipple and he ignored the coolant low warning figuring he would fix it eventually. The nipple broke off, car lost all it's coolant, and overheated till it dropped valves in the seats. The Low coolant warning is the ONLY warning you get on these cars.

Take care,

George
