Default Coolant Reservoir Hose

Hello all, I've got a coolant leak and fortunately the source wasn't too hard to find. The hose from the reservoir is broken where it attaches to what I believe is the thermostat housing. Is there something that goes in between the hose fitting (on the left) and the housing (on the right) or is the threaded nipple that screws into the housing broken? I'm assuming it's just broken and I need a new reservoir hose and somehow have to remove the broken nipple from the housing.

Thanks.

You will need to replace the upper hose as the bleeder and connection to the expansion tank are included. The broken fitting in the hose will need to be removed and discarded.

Take your time and be sure to add sufficient anti-freeze coolant to protect your engine for your local climate. Probably for your area -35 C (-31 F) should be good.

Once the hose has been replaced and the coolant topped up, you will need to bleed the system to remove any trapped air. The bleed screw on the new hose and the screw on the end of the small hose next to the expansion tank are used to bleed out any remaining air. The bleed screw next to the expansion tank is used to bleed the heater core. Remember to also place the heater controls in the 'Hi' position when you bleed the system.

Ok. I finally got time to start on this and now it doesn't look like the upper reservoir hose is bad. It's the plastic connector that fits into the end of the hose. The elongated end inserts into the hose and the round end fits (threads?) into a plastic tee fitting. I've attached pics of the parts in question.

1. This is the plastic fitting that was inserted into the end of the upper reservoir hose and appears to be broken.
2. This is the upper hose that seems to be in good shape.
3. This is the plastic tee that the broken end of the fitting is inserted in to.

Is it possible to just get this plastic fitting? Does this part have name? Part number?

The part you indicate is broken off is not a separate service part by Jaguar as it is part of the upper hose.

The part number is XR854920 and, depending on the VIN of your vehicle, may have been superseded. Have the VIN of you vehicle available and check with your local Jaguar dealership for the correct replacement hose.

Those break off if you look at them the wrong way.
Somebody posted about getting a cheaper option than the factory part, I think without the thermostat housing, could be worth a search.

Ok. Thanks again. Having a part # is a great help.

Seems like Rockauto was the place.

Yes, I looked at that, if you look at the picture I posted in the older thread it was the correct part at that time.

I ended up getting a brand new assembly from an Ebay seller for $179. Installation wasn't real easy. Kind of tight in some places to get both the hose and your hands in. At the bottom of the thermostat housing I ended up using a band clamp instead of the supplied clamp. It was much easier to get in place and tightened.

A word of advice. Be careful jiggling the expansion tank upper hose. I ended up with a leak at the hose fitting. The plastic was probably getting brittle anyhow. So back to Ebay and $67 later. A new expansion tank.

Mine broke just like in the pictures posted in this thread. I heard a rumor that there is a metal replacement for the plastic housing, but can't seem to track one down. Does anyone know if it is true and where I can order one?
Unfortunately, in my case. the car overheated and blew a head gasket and the engine needs to be replaced. I know it can be repaired, but the cost of a used engine (with less miles and a guaranty) is only slightly more than the cost of repairing the old one, especially when you have no guaranty that the rings and other parts were not also damaged.

On my, earlier model s type, the upper hose assembly broke at the small hose inlet. Although this is a different break point to yours. Plastic welding might work for you.

It was possible for me to do a plastic weld repair, rather than replace the upper hose assembly. I used a piece of old collapsible car radio antenna (as an inner sleeve) prior to the weld to strengthen and give it support. I left the weld to a professional plastic welder which cost $20.

This worked for me and hopefully it might give you a different way of thinking before you replace the whole upper hose assembly (unless it is old and in need of replacing anyway).

Unfortunately I don't know about a metal replacement but the plastic is very fragile and needs an upgrade. Hopefully someone will be able to answer this for you.
