couple of quick questions
2000 S-type 4.0L
1. The button that engages the sport mode is stuck and the car will not come out of sport mode. How do I remove the bezel around the sport and traction control buttons? Once off, I'm hoping it was just dirty or there is something in there stopping it from reseting. If its broken how would I replace it?
2. While I'm in there I imagine I should try to clean/lubricate my shift linkage, how/what do I lubricate?
Thanks

You'll have to lift the center console, lift up the arm rest, undo the boot around the parking brake lever, and pry up around the edges of the console, there are three clips that hold down the center console cubby towards the end of the console, makesure those pop off before pulling any further. this will give you enough access to undo the connectors and cigar lighter connector.
To see if your cable needs adjustment put itinto neutral, in should fall right in place with no effort, if it doesn't, you will see next to the J-gate, with the center console remonved, the hold down for the cable its held in place by two nuts. Try moving it forwards or bacwards and see which way feels better. Its kinda cunfusing but once you see it, it will make sense

Any insight on trying to fix the actual button itself? If I have to replace it, is it some kind of module that swaps in and out that holds both the traction control and sprot mode buttons? Is there any linkage points that need to be greased, or have some kind of maintenance to be performed?
Once you get the center console lifted, it becomes pretty straight forward. Pull out the Sport mode switch and you should be able to see how you can take it apart. Go slow and carefully. Once you clean it, if still sticks, you will have to replace it. However, you will already know how it comes out, so just plug in the new one and you will be good to go.
